Attention Students!

Welcome to those who have recently registered! I look forward to getting to know you this term.

There are some problems with linking your blog name! When you submit your introduction questions and answers to me, instead of linking simply tell me what house you are in. To those of you who have already sent in, please just send me a quick owl with your house. I am sorry for the inconvenience. I should have put that on there to begin with, but alas, I am new and still adapting to this fast pace roll as a Professor! Thank you for you patience. :)

Also, tomorrow I will be posting the Course Calendar. I know when I was a student at Hogwarts this was a necessity. This calender will allow you to get a head start on your course work. It may seem like a lot but I promise you, it is not hard and you will have fun doing the work!

To keep up easily with what the class is doing, I suggest you track the Potions 101 tag. Also to keep up with Hogwarts in general track the H.A.Weekly tag.

To those of you on the fence about registering for this course. PLEASE JOIN US! It will be fun and you will learn so much! Please feel free to email or send me an owl if you have any questions, comments, or concerns at any time. I will reply as quickly as I am able.

Email: professor_peggbender@yahoo.com

*Please any questions you fell other students may have as well need to be asked thru the owlery so I may address the publically.

Course Objective:

Potions is an art form rarely appreciated. In Potions 101 students will learn to understand recipes and the magical ingredients which are used. Students will gain knowledge in Potions and the benefits the practitioners of the art have. As the term progresses the level of difficulty to brew the potions discussed will increase.

Course Structure:

Lessons: I will post instructions for the weekly assignment every Monday. Some weeks I may post my own information about the assignment, other weeks it is up to you to find the necessary information. Students may use any outside sources available as well as any information I post to do the work as proficiently as possible.

Weekly Assignments: As said before you will have an assignment a week. They will be worth a great chunk of your grade. The assignments will not be difficult or long for those who take the time to do just a bit of research.  My only requirement is more than 75 words per assignment. I feel this is a fair length. Assignments are due the Friday after which they are assigned, by no later than midnight Eastern Standard Time. I will accept late work for the first two assignments, after that they will not be accepted. Please submit your work to my email Professor_peggbender@yahoo.com.

Extra Credit: Occasionally I will post extra credit assignments throughout the term. Most will consist of opinion questions.  When they are posted you may turn them in at any time, until I post otherwise.

Final Exam: Your final exam will consist of a 15 question multiple choice questions and a one paragraph (100 words) essay question.

Grading Scale:

Homework: 80%

Extra Credit: 5%

Final Exam: 20%

Understanding Letter Grades:

Passing Grades

O = Outstanding (100%)

E = Exceeds Expectations (90%)

A = Acceptable (80%)

Failing Grades

            P = Poor (70%)

            D = Dreadful (60%)

            T = Troll (50-0%)

If you put in effort and do all of your assignments you will most likely get an O. This class is not hard, but it is interesting and requires attention and effort.

Materials:

-          Some sort of word program (to submit assignments)

-          Quills and parchment (for notes)

-          Your Wand

-          1 pewter cauldron (size 2)

-          1 set of brass scales

Rules:

The only rule in my class is no “trash talk”. We are all here to learn thus we should be friends. If I see any kind of bashing or trash talk I hold the right to drop you from my course. Please be respectful.

Welcome to my class!

Welcome To Potions!
